How I Move Trauma and Stored Emotions Through My Body

How I Move Trauma and Stored Emotions Through My Body

Everyone’s healing process looks different. These are some of the things I personally do to help me process emotions, release tension, and move through the things my body may be carrying.

I Acknowledge What I Am Feeling

I allow myself to be honest.

What am I feeling?

Why am I feeling this way?

What happened?

What is underneath the anger, sadness, fear, or resentment?

I believe we cannot get to the root of anything if we refuse to look at the root. Sometimes that means being willing to acknowledge the pain, the darkness, and the messiness of what we have experienced.

I do not believe in pretending I am fine when I am not.

I Move My Body

When I feel stuck emotionally, I move physically.

I walk.

I stretch.

I exercise.

I open up my body.

I release tension.

My experience teaching yoga taught me to recognize the connection between the emotional and physical body. While I no longer practice yoga as a spiritual practice, I still understand the physical connection I learned through that experience.

Sometimes I need to get out of my head and into my body.

Movement helps me do that.

I Listen to Music and Frequencies

Music has always been powerful for me.

I listen to music and frequencies that help me feel calm, grounded, and centered. Sometimes I need worship music. Sometimes I need music that helps me process my emotions. Sometimes I simply need to lie down, close my eyes, and allow sound to help me slow down.

I believe what we listen to can affect our environment and how we feel.

For me, music is one of the ways I create space to emotionally and physically reset.

I Use the Gifts God Created

I love using natural things that God has given us as part of my wellness routine.

This includes:

• Inhaling essential oils

• Diffusing essential oils

• Drinking herbal teas

• Spending time in nature

• Getting fresh air

• Using natural products

• Allowing my body to rest

These simple practices help me slow down and reconnect with myself.

I Nourish My Body With Healing Foods

The food I eat is also part of how I care for myself.

I believe food can either support the body or create more stress within the body.

I focus on nourishing foods that make me feel good and support my overall health.

For me, that means choosing foods that are as close to their natural form as possible and being intentional about what I put into my body.

When I am already emotionally stressed, I do not want to add more stress to my body through the foods I eat.

Food is one of the ways I honor my body.

I Worship

This is one of the most important parts of my healing.

I listen to worship music.

I pray.

I spend time in God’s Word.

I remind myself of the truth.

There are times when I feel emotionally stuck and I cannot think my way out of it.

That is when I turn to God.

I remind myself that my pain is not wasted.

What happened to me does not have to define me.

And I remind myself that God can use even the most painful parts of our story for His glory.

Healing is not about pretending the pain never happened.

It is about learning how to move through it.

Sometimes that means acknowledging it.

Sometimes it means moving your body.

Sometimes it means listening to music, nourishing yourself, resting, praying, worshiping, or simply allowing yourself to feel what you have been trying not to feel. For me, all of these things work together.

My emotional health, physical health, and spiritual health are connected.
