Music Can Heal or Harm: Why I Choose My Playlist Carefully

Music isn’t just background noise. It’s energy. It’s vibration. It’s frequency. Everything in our world operates through vibration, so I’ve become much more intentional about what I allow into my home, my headphones, and my children’s ears.
I believe we’ve underestimated the power of music.
There was a time when music was created to inspire beauty, peace, worship, and creativity. Many people believe music tuned to 432 Hz has a more natural and calming feel than today’s standard 440 Hz tuning.
Whether or not science eventually proves it, I think there’s something to be said for paying attention to how different music makes you feel.
I also believe the entertainment industry understands the psychological power of music far more than most people realize.
In my opinion, we’ve watched music become increasingly aggressive, sexualized, angry, and chaotic over the decades. I believe that isn’t an accident.
I also believe certain genres of music have been promoted in ways that have harmed communities rather than helped them. In my view, rap music that glorifies violence, drugs, gangs, and crime has contributed to destructive cycles in many neighborhoods. I believe those messages influence culture, and I question who benefits from that. In my opinion, when more people end up incarcerated, private prisons and the industries connected to them profit. Whether intentional or not, I think it’s worth asking why music that celebrates destructive lifestyles has been so heavily promoted.
You don’t have to agree with me.
I’ve made a different choice for my family.
I want music that fills our home with peace instead of chaos, hope instead of fear, gratitude instead of anger, and worship instead of darkness.
That’s why you’ll usually hear classical music playing while we homeschool, cook dinner, or clean the house. You’ll also hear worship music that points our hearts back to God and songs that simply make us smile.
Here’s what’s on repeat in our house.
My High Frequency Playlist
Forest Frank – Celebration
CeCe Winans – Worthy of It All
Tauren Wells – Breathe On It
Elevation Worship – Trust In God
The Duck Song ( I’m a mom, what can I say)
Telepopmusik – Breathe (this is an oldie but goodie)
Claude Debussy – Clair de Lune
Johann Sebastian Bach – Air on the G String
Ludwig van Beethoven – Moonlight Sonata
Frédéric Chopin – Nocturne in E Flat Major, Op. 9 No. 2
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Piano Concerto No. 21
Whether you believe music heals, harms, or simply influences our emotions, one thing is certain: what we repeatedly listen to shapes our thoughts, our attitudes, and the atmosphere of our homes.
